Truck Tires

If you think every giant, wicked-looking tire is the best off-road tire for your truck, you’re wrong about truck tires. Before deciding on a set of tires, you must know your truck’s purpose. Are you rock-crawling, sand-racing, mud-plowing, or doing other off-road activity with your truck?

Choosing Tires According to Terrain

People wrongly believe that tires are only for enhanced traction on rough roads. Because of this belief, they normally think that bigger tires mean greater traction. This may be a good theory, but may not always have a practical implementation. There exists better ways to increase traction than simply having bigger off road tires.

If improving truck traction is your chief objective, you must get stock tires with traction differential or locker rather than simply fitting taller tires. Winch is even better.

To be precise, bigger truck tires are basically designed to raise the height of your vehicle and render greater ground clearance of the rig. This gears your truck for steeper ascending and descending on rough terrains. In other words, when you drive through mud, desert, or over boulders, or through the forests, higher ground clearance helps your vehicle overcome various obstacles in the path.

Now, when you’re out driving on mud, it helps to have tires designed specifically for mud terrain. A set of radials for all seasons may not work as efficiently as mud terrain tires. So, it proves that improved traction is not the only function of a tire.

Upgrading Tires Means Upgrading Other Parts Too

You cannot just fit a new set of truck tires and zoom off on the road. That’s not enough. In fact, the taller tires may look awkward and even give your truck a hard time to “adjust” to them. You need to upgrade other parts as well to give your truck a brand-new feel.

For example, for the newer tires to function without rubbing against the fenders of the truck, it requires a few inches extra in vehicle clearance. Body lift or suspension lift, or both, can provide those extra inches. For off-road driving, suspension lift kit is a better option for increasing the capacity of the wheels. The kit is a performance part, unlike body lift, which only facilitates the installation of bigger tires without any improvement in truck performance.

Don’t forget the axles and shocks of your truck. When you fit bigger truck tires, it increases the weight of the vehicle. This means the axles and shocks have to bear greater pressure. It also changes the gear ratio that was originally set by the manufacturer of the vehicle. To let your truck endure the increased weight, you need to upgrade the ring and pinion gears, axles, and shocks. Also, performance parts like exhausts, custom intakes, computer chips, and others help your vehicle take in the new tires with greater compatibility and without losing on the performance.

You can get the best deals on truck tires online. The good news is that you can find Super Swamper tires for sale on the internet. It’s time to raise your vehicle to new heights, literally!

Thanks for the good info. I bought tires for the back of my explorer this past summer and they did not look the same as the ones that had been on it. I just asked the guy at Mavis, what the right tire would be, and that I needed inexpensive tires, as buying the tires at that time was not a planned purchase.
